Job Title: In-School Suspension (ISS) Paraprofessional

Location: Commerce Middle School
Reports To: School Principal or Assistant Principal

Job Summary

The In-School Suspension (ISS) Paraprofessional supervises students assigned to in-school suspension and ensures a structured, safe, and productive environment. The ISS Paraprofessional monitors student behavior, supports completion of assigned academic work, and reinforces school expectations while promoting accountability and positive decision-making.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Supervise students assigned to the In-School Suspension program.

• Maintain a structured and orderly environment that supports student learning and reflection.

• Ensure students complete assigned coursework provided by teachers.

• Communicate with teachers to obtain and return student assignments.

• Monitor student behavior and enforce school rules and ISS expectations.

• Document student attendance, behavior, and completion of work while in ISS.

• Report behavioral concerns or incidents to school administration.

• Support students in reflecting on behavior and making positive choices moving forward.

• Maintain confidentiality regarding student records and disciplinary matters.

• Collaborate with administrators, counselors, and teachers when needed.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or designee.

Qualifications

• GACE Paraprofessional Certification

• Experience working with children or adolescents in a school setting preferred.

• Ability to maintain structure, consistency, and professionalism with students.

• Strong communication and organizational skills.

• Ability to manage student behavior calmly and effectively.

Working Conditions

• Work is performed in a classroom or designated ISS setting.

• Requires supervision of students for extended periods of time.

• May require interaction with students exhibiting behavioral challenges.
